Fleet Street looking toward St Pauls
Surely this is the 'classic' view of St Pauls Cathedral, it's looking East from Fleet Street. 'The Street' once the hub of the UK newspaper business is now largly turned over to the banking industry. It's a view I am very familiar with and will always remember, I saw it daily as a messenger deleivering prints to newspapers when I first started out.
The English Baroque style St Pauls by Sir Christopher Wren was consecrated in 1697, Fleet Street came before that with printing begining in the 1500's with Wynkyn de Worde producing books from his nearby office.
Fleet Street and newspapers have changed enormously although the famous Cheshire Cheese pub built shortly after the Great Fire of 1666 has survived world wars and publishing upheavals. The church has also changed in its outlook but the wonderful architecture and build of St Pauls remains a constant in London's evolving skyline.
