There is a new baby in the house, I have even got a picture of it on my iPhone.
The baby in question is my new Leica camera, that I collected from Red Dot Cameras in London but before you get too excited or envious it’s not an M9 or S2 but a D Lux 6. I have had it for a couple of weeks now and Ididn’t want to say anything before because I wanted to see exactly how it performed.
I was on location in Dorset this week for a magazine and arriving from London early found myself with an hour to kill. The early morning rain had stopped and the sun was forcing it’s way through the clouds. Being winter it was still nice and low on the horizon. I left my Nikons in my bag and took out this little Leica.
The seafront at Charmouth was practically deserted. The tide was going out leaving an enormous expanse of beach. The cold and the wind whipping inland off the sea made for a terrific atmosphere. Was my new baby Leica up to capturing it. The clouds were moving across the sky quickly but still allowing the sun to break through on occasion. The whole situation screamed out “black and white”, so that is what I did.
As you can see from the picture above my “little baby” did a big job and came through with flying colours. A great little camera. On a note of nostalgia I wish I had kept my M2 film camera all those years ago.
I just wanted to give you a taste. I’ll write more about the pocketable D Lux 6 in the future.
In the meantime I hope you enjoy the picture.
